Urban design focuses on the shaping and use of public spaces, including those that are frequently subject to overlapping management by multiple public agencies or authorities. Complicating the matter is meeting the interests of nearby property owners and member of the community. The design, construction, and management of public spaces therefore typically demand consultation and negotiation across a variety of spheres. Master planning of urban design should incorporate multiple fields including engineering, ecology, local history, and transport planning. Application of new technology for urban design and multidisciplinary master planning of cities can contribute to improvement of major human health and environmental problems, including asthma and allergies, animal-transmitted diseases, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and depression, habitat fragmentation, stream degradation, wetlands destruction, and the concomitant loss of native species
