2010-2011
The Food Justice Team is helping to plan the Food Justice Forum on April 16, 2011 at UCSD’s Green Open House. This event is helping to bring together academic and community members working to cultivate food justice. This event will include a talk from Robert Gottlieb, the author of Food Justice, a roundtable discussion with engaged scholars from UCSD and various activists from the community. There will also be a booth at the Green Open House throughout the day promoting the forum and educating people about how they can practice food justice in their own personal food systems. This Food Justice Forum will work to help to bridge the gap between academia and activism, connect social analysis to justice and human values, and reorient the social sciences towards creating positive local and global issues.
Specifically, the food justice team will help with the organization of the event and the creation of content for the booth. By helping organize this event, the food justice team will be able to further connect their research to action by creating a space for scholars and activists to come together to discuss and cultivate food justice.
