After decades of auto-centric planning San Diego faces challenges from sprawling low density land uses, continuing development and management of public transit systems, limited incorporation of alternative transportation options, and the provision of rural transportation solutions. Providing effective, sustainable, and equitable pubic mobility is a key element of creating more livable communities and a developing a better connected San Diego region. Transportation planning covers a broad spectrum of areas of practice, which can be viewed individually or considered as cooperative elements of a larger whole.
