Dear Students,
If you haven’t already done so, please register and create your SciVee account immediately. Its easy:
1. Register to SciVee by going to: http://www.scivee.tv/ (create an account using the same username and email you use for the Senior Sequence Web site; look for the register link at the top of the web page on the right)
2. Allow a day for Ken and Willy to give your new account credits (the ability for you to upload 1-3 postercasts for free)
You won’t be able to publish your postercast until Ken or Willy give your account the free credits you need. They will assign the free credits to your account very soon after you register. Give them til the end of the day after you register. This lag time explains why I’ve been asking you over and over to please register to the SciVee web site well in advance of the postercast due date.
Once you are registered, you have to join a group (within which you will publish your postercast). What group am I talking about? That would be your research team. The Senior Sequence SciVee community has 15 groups within it (your Senior Sequence Research Teams as noted in our Grand Challenges Database). To check what team you belong to see, http://www.seniorsequence.net/index.php/aoc/teams/
The teams on SciVee are organized under the very same AOCs we use for the Senior Sequence (our ten areas of concentration). Here are the steps to follow to join your group (SciVee research team, same as your Senior Sequence Research Team):
1. Go to the SciVee Senior Sequence Community page on the web: http://www.scivee.tv/node/13268
2. Find your group (select your AOC, then your research team)
3. Follow the instructions to join your research team.
You won’t be able to upload your postercast until I go into the database and give you Administration (upload/authorship) privileges (I CAN’T DO THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE JOINED YOUR GROUP ON SCIVEE). I will give everyone who joined their group admin privileges Thursday night—so it is critical that you register and join your group by Thursday night, or Friday at the latest.
As soon as I give you Admin rights, you’ll be able to upload your postercast at any time—don’t wait til the last minute!!. Ken taught you how to do a postercast. There are also very good tutorials on the SciVee web site. You can access my messages about all of this on the class updates on our Senior Sequences web site.
I am sorry if all of this seems complicated. It is all really quite straight forward. But the timing is crucial. Please help me make this easy for you. Please follow these instructions. I need you to Register and join your group right away. You can’t create and upload your postercast until both these steps are completed first.
If you have any technical questions, I’ve designated a helper, Chris, to be available for you (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)). If Chris doesn’t have the answer we have Ken and Willy as back up support. So we’ve got a lot of help lined up. We just need you to do your part.
To sweeten the pot, an anonymous donor agreed to give $100 to the best postercast. Second and third place winners will get SciVee T-shirts. The posters themselves also get 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. ($250, $150, and $100, respectively).
Stay strong, all of your hard work will pay off,
Keith
