Academic Distinction Award
This award is given based on high GPA along with consideration of several academic criteria including the pursuit of a double major, minor or minors, and any type of academic distinctions a student may have earned during the course of their studies at UCSD (e.g., winning a research grant or a competition to give an invited academic presentation).
Meritorious Community Service Award
This award goes to the student with the most outstanding record of community-based service. This may include volunteer work as well as research (an academic project that directly benefited some community organization, non-profit or public service agency). The intent is to reward a student who has consistently dedicated themselves to tasks of promoting social justice and equity through hands-on involvement in community-based projects and/or internship.
Charles Phan Health and Human Services Award
This award goes to a student who will be pursing a career in the field of health and human services. Their SRP project and their anticipated career path strongly lead them in the direction of health and human services.
The USP faculty will be selecting candidates for these awards. If one of your professors has raved about one of your papers, if the internship/research project you are working on is of particular high caliber or if the community volunteer work you have been dedicated towards deserves recognition, don’t be shy, it is time for you to speak up. You can assist by writing a few paragraphs about your efforts and turn in a nomination letter. Also we encourage you to nominate each other since you know each other well. All nomination letters are appreciated and due in the Urban Studies and Planning Program office, SSB 315, Friday, March 5, 2010.
