Affordable Housing

Below are some great ideas for research in the field of affordable housing. One of our esteemed mentors, Professor Nico Calavita, gave us this list.

a) How well are redevelopment agencies doing in terms of spending their low-moderate set-asides and creating affordable options? In San Diego?

b) Are inclusionary housing requirements achieving economic and social integration? In the Future Urbanizing Area of the City or Carlsbad for example?

c) What will the impacts of SB 375 be on housing affordability? Should a large portion of housing near transit stations be affordable? How could it be financed? (this is especially important!)

d) Los Angeles is working on adopting an Inclusionary Housing ordinance, the last big city in the state. Why so late? how is it going?

e) Is the Density Bonus Law that makes any parcel of land susceptible to a density increase of 33% to developers providing a percentage of their development for affordable housing good or bad for planning?
